I'd want a king's ransom in return for Bouwmeester, otherwise, we're better off keeping him.

Is the cap-hit high? Absolutley, but let's not forget that the cap has significantly increased. That, and Bouwmeester's contract runs for only another two years, so there is far less risk involved with his contract long term.

Someone will give Bouwmeester the benefit of the doubt. Calgary's image isn't exactly stellar right now and it it could be argued that playing on a mediocre team where the forwards hardly ever score in transition drags Bouwmeester down, not to mention the fact that he is overburdened with the amount of minutes he gets and his partners are usually suited to bottom pairing roles (Regehr and Butler). And before someone chimes in that Regehr isn't a bottom-pairing defensmen, he was fifth in TOI/G and eight in ESTOI/G on the Sabres. An even strength liability because he can't move the puck out of the zone.
