There's absolutely no reason not to (assuming they have the cap space to take a gamble). He's going to be a cheap high risk high reward type of player. Cost is maybe 2-2.5m max. If it works out, great - and he's still a RFA. If it doesn't work, waive him or bury him in the minors, or put him on LTIR if he's injured. There's only upside to giving him a shot in your top 6.
I'm honestly surprised someone hasn't offered him a contract yet. Would love for the Pens to give him a shot along side Sid.
Same goes for Wolski - another player with some talent. Give him a shot... worse case is it doesn't work... But the cost isn't that high that it really means much if it doesn't work...
