Detroit gets Buff to fill the huge void on their blueline, and he can play top pairing RHD minutes with Kronwall. Their core players are all around 30 years old and in order to make another good run with these guys, they probably need to add a guy like Buff. They also have 15 forwards under NHL contract (not even including Tatar) and need to drop 1 or 2 so can afford to move Helm.

Winnipeg gets one of Detroit's top prospects. Tatar looks like he could be a top 6er. With the recent selection of Trouba, the Jets can afford to give up a RHD. Also, adding Helm gives the Jets an effective 4th line replacement for Glass and a hometown favourite.

The Jets throw in Chicago's 3rd to balance the assets. 2013 will be a good draft, but Detroit still gets a pick in return for their 1st, which will historically be mid to late.

Does this work for both teams?
