As an aside, people also need to take cap ramifications into account. Which few do in these things.

All reports are that Malkin is very happy in Pittsburgh. He may not sign for the same $8.7 million long term that Sid did, but then again he may. They basically have the same agent (different agents who are partners in the same agency, and shared the same agent when they came into the league) and signed for the same amount their last contract. A lot of Pens' fans think that Malkin will give them a good deal to resign with them next year. That is worth a lot.
