I don't believe in jinxes, so sure why not.
certainly be better.
Forward group this year is probably about equal to what it was to start last year. Purcell improved and we added Brown/Pouliot, but we also lost Moore/Downie and Marty showed his age a bit. There is a pretty big ? at the 3rd line center position to start the season. If the kids (Connolly/Conacher/Killorn) step up, we could be looking at a very good offensive unit.
Defense is absolutely improved. Hedman got another year of learning under his belt, Brewer = Brewer, Salo > Kubina, Carle > Clark, Lee > Gilroy, Mikkelson > Gervais, Aulie > Oberg, MAB = MAB, Ohlund = Ohlund.
Goaltending can't get any worse than last year, right?
Garon was looking adequate before his injury. I'd expect Lindback to post about a .910sv%, which is miles ahead of what we got last yr.
Boucher got another year of NHL experience, I'm sure he has plans on how to improve over last yr (powerplay).
Injuries will be important, as always. Even just one of Vinny or Malone putting in a full season would be huge. Hedman staying concussion free would be nice. Salo is Salo, he's bound to wind up running out of bad luck at some point though right?
. If from some miracle Ohlund winds up being able to play, that would give us a pretty deep defensive group.
I'd guess the team will be in contention to win the division. Making the playoffs should be expected.
Stamkos gets 50+ goals and breaks 100 points.
