Theyre only other option is to take the picks, which would likely be late 1sts and not equal to his true value.
In other words a smart GM that didnt intend to do buisness with nashville in the future (division rivals AKA Detriot) would be smart to do this.
It's an unlikely proposition to happen though. For one, Weber has to agree to only a one year deal. That's unlikely. If it does happen, it's because he wants to hit free agency. It's highly unlikely he would screw the Predators by signing a one year deal, then signing an extension around December.
So he then becomes a one year rental. At 7.5 (it's unlikely he goes lower, more likely he wants higher too), it's going to cost an opposing GM a 1st, 2nd, 3rd rounder next season and likely a relationship with the Preds. I suppose it might not be the worst thing in the world. Weber's a pretty good way to beef up for a cup. But if Weber wants 8.5? Then it costs four 1st rounders. For one year? No team is going to offer that.
All in all, its highly unlikely that a poison pill contract is offered to Weber.
