If Alexander Semin isn't the centerpiece, he wont put forth a consistent effort. And on our team he would not be the #1 guy, Giroux has that locked up.
I couldn't care less about nationality, I do care about shot blocking and consistency though.

2006-2010: Semin averaged 35 G/35 A when Alex Ovechkin as one the very best players in the world. Backstrom had arguably overshadowed Semin since 2008 as well and he often played on the 2nd line with Laich and Fleischmann during his best years as a Cap.
Point is, Semin has had no trouble producing as a 2nd or 3rd option. He has usually been fine playing as the best player in a 2nd line or the 2nd best player on a 1st line.
