Jon Ericsson isn't some defensive stud. He has significant issues with positioning and he lacks the aggression you want to see from a 6;5 defenseman. He's not "shut down guy" or a "PK" specialist.
Not anymore than most third pairing guys who play the PK.
Two years ago, Ericsson began the season with his job in jeopardy after a horrible, horrible season. He's done enough to solidify himself as a roster player and not much else.
Coach Babcock likes to pump his tires a lot. But Babock likes players of the caliber of Abdelkader too.
I like Ericsson. I've had my eye on the kid since the first scouting reports came out after the draft (turned out a lot better than Johan Bergrenn).
But Ericsson hasn't lived up to the early potential he showed.
But when it comes to defense? I'll take Ericsson over Q.
Watching Q play defense is like watch preschoolers operate a fireworks show.
