Players cap hits and salaries definitely rise each year not just based on performance, but based on a teams salary caps. Once the cap rises so does each players value. Not sure how you can argue that.
I have no idea what you're saying in the bolded.

As for the rest, the argument is that players should be given raises based on performance not just as a result of the cap going up. The fact that GMs hand out ridiculous contracts is what lead to the first lockout. Don't confuse overpaying with merit-based raises.
