I'm with you 100% on the logic, but for the Sharks first ever elite (or close enough) UFA in their prime with no previous Sharks connection signed here to be a Russian signed by Doug Wilson is a pipe dream, no?
Not being able to (or wanting to) sign Semin at $6.5M does not mean we need to sign Doan at $5M per, agreed, but if the Sharks can add useful speed elsewhere (i.e., not another Taco Torrey clone), IMHO Doan would be okay (if not good) at the right price.
NHL Head Coaches are, by and large, vastly overrated, especially when correlating the success and failure of the team to coaching prowess. Todd McLellan is the epitome of this.
