Here is my write up I just completed last night...

#80 Nicolas Deslauriers
Position: Defenseman
2011/2012 team: Manchester Monarchs (AHL)

Overview: Nicolas Deslauriers is a highly skilled defenseman participating in his fourth development camp.

Strengths: Nicolas Deslauriers has one of the most complete games amongst the Kings prospects. He has incredible skating skills, a very hard shot, a competitive drive that makes him lethal offensively, and a gritty overall game where he’s not shy to lay a hit out. Deslauriers is an exceptional talent, and he looks a lot bigger than his 6’0 listing.

Weaknesses: Despite all of his amazing skills, he is still inconsistent with his numbers and his on-ice play. In Manchester, he had reduced numbers and shuffling in different positions. He sounds like the classic example of a player who “has the tools, but not the toolbox” which may affect his long term upside.

Future: Deslauriers has quickly risen in the ranks for the Kings pipeline, and if there’s an offensive defenseman on the Kings who goes down, Deslauriers is a good candidate to be called up. Until then, he will be kept in Manchester to hone his skills, as he’s too talented to be a #7 defenseman.
