Maybe "ideally" isn't the best word to describe the Oilers D situation
Whitney will most likely be traded at the TD, with Marincin and Klefbom knocking at the door it would be hard to keep him. If returns back to form, he'll want the long term contract, which the Oilers cannot afford to give, due to the prospects coming up.
