NHL negotiations: strike or lock out ?

Well here is something that may generate debate among the hockey brain trust on this site.

I understand the "negotiations" between the NHL and the Players Association have commenced and there is a possibility of a delayed or another cancelled season.

This could be posturing by the NHL and PA but anything is possible. I hope it does not happen but greed makes even smart people do silly things.

Normally NHL money issues do not have a direct impact on Jr. Hockey.

However and perhaps some of you can comment, if a lock out or strike occurs for an extended period of time, the OHL and other Major Jr teams will be able to increase their overagers from 3 to 8.

Apparently, the NHL would want their rookies and draft picks to play. Does it make any sense ?

That could impact and push down rookie Major Junior local players like Nevan Guy, William Petschenig, Matt Desautels, Remi Elie and many others in the country.

It is likely these players would return to their respective Jr. A tier II teams to amend and enhance a lot of rosters.

Does that make any sense ?

Let the debate begin...

As always, I look forward to what Ottawa Guy has to say.
