Spezza and Volchenkov are younger than both Comrie and Smyth and have a high potential. The Senators will never trade both, maybe (that's a BIG MAYBE) one of them. Trading Volchy also means that the Ottawa defence gets weaked and Muckler would probably demand a D-man in return.
Just wondering where Volchenkov is on the depth chart?

1) Redden
2) Chara
3) Rachunek
4) Phillips
5-8) Volchenkov, Pothier, Hnidy, Leschynun (SP?)

None of the top 4 guys is older than 27 YO, so why couldn't the Sens trade Volchenkov?

The guys that The Sens would be getting back are 23 & 27 YO. It's not like they are rentals in any sense of the word.

IMO, if Comrie is healthy, he'd outproduce Spezza offensively over the short term. Long-term, who knows, but this is the type of trade that is a total slam-dunk IMO.
