Two years now still give us good negotiating power, then even if there is a 5 year limit on contracts, which we would look at signing him to, its okay because 3 of those 5 years are UFA years. Signing him to a 3,4 or 5 year deal now is bad, especially 4 would be horrible. Six years is the least I would want on a long term deal now and then not excited about it. My preference is 2, gives everybody a better idea of his ability and I do not mind paying him what he is worth after that contract is up , I do mind a Gomez contract where the player isnt earning his pay at all.
