If, as speculated, the new salary cap will be about what it was this year ($64.3) it will be hard but doable.

Rick Nash ($7.800m) / Brad Richards ($6.667m) / Shane Doan ($5.000m)
Chris Kreider ($1.325m) / Derek Stepan ($0.875m) / Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)
Carl Hagelin ($0.875m) / Artem Anisimov ($1.875m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)
Brian Boyle ($1.700m) / Jeff Halpern ($0.700m) / Taylor Pyatt ($1.550m)
Arron Asham ($1.000m) /
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Dan Girardi ($3.325m)
Ryan McDonagh ($1.300m) / Michael Sauer ($1.250m)
Stu Bickel ($0.750m) / Michael Del Zotto ($2.100m)
Anton Stralman ($1.300m) / Tim Erixon ($1.750m)
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m)
Martin Biron ($1.300m)
Chris Drury ($1.667m)
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $66,733,334; BONUSES: $2,100,000

That's 2.4 above this year's cap limit, and that's carrying 8 defensemen, and assuming Gaborik plays all year.

Assuming Gaborik starts the season on the IR, and 1 of Erixon or Stralman aren't on the team (either in the form of Erixon not being ready or Straalsy getting too much at arbitration). If both of them make the team, that means that Sauer would be on LTIR as well, which would clear up some room.

Next year, however, would suck. Unless the cap goes up, Anisimov would probably become a cap casualty.

EDIT: Also, in the new CBA, there would most likely be additional tools to get under the lowered cap.
