That logic is horrendous.
There may very well be lots of factors involved but most of them aren't important to the long-term plan of building a contending team.
Right now, there should only be one goal and that is getting a young core signed long-term to build the team around. If Subban chooses not to be a part of that goal, that's his choice, I'd rather trade him for someone who wants to be part of that future.
There's only two reasons Subban doesn't want to sign here long-term: he thinks he'll get a big UFA payday down the road or he wants to play somewhere else in a couple of years. Either way, I'd like to expedite his dream, why should we hold him back from achieving what he really wants.
