Yeah, they gave up Nash, but look at some of the players they've amassed:

F:
Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, R.J. Umberger, Derrick Brassard, Vinny Prospal, Mark Letestu, and Nick Foligno.

D:
Jack Johnson, James Wisniewski, Fedor Tyutin, Adrian Aucoin, and Nikita Nikitin.

G:
Steve Mason, and Sergei Bobrovsky.

I'm sorry, but you look at the CBJ, and then look at the Caps, and I'm liking the CBJ's chances a whole lot more than ours. Their D is unquestionably better than ours.
Now, IMHO, Backstrom is a better forward than anyone on their roster, but they have some pretty good balance there.
PLUS: they've amassed a ton of picks. Gotta like their future.
Actually this roster has no future at all.
Their group of forwards would look good behind a good 1st line - the thing that doesn't exist in Columbus. Players who will have to play on their 1st line would be very good 3rd liners on good teams. They are also not that young to think that they've not fully developed.
The defense is a bit better, but nothing to salivate at even with adding Erixon, and sure as hell not better than the Caps.
The goaltenders are is two inconsistent young players with history of fails.

Ovechkin, Backstrom, Semin and probably Ribeiro are all better than any of the CBJ forwards. Carlson, Alzner and Green all are at the same level as Johnson. At least. Goalies are always hard to predict, but compare Holtby and Neuvirth to Bob and SMason...

Jackets now remind of Atlanta after Kovy trade: many OK players, but no talent to hope for a lot. Mediocre.
