Well my kid has been into hockey since he was a year old. He's always been carrying around his stick since he saw Dad doing it. He typically wants to play whenever I start fussing with my stick.

As for skating, he's been too young but I've put him in skates and carried him around some while I was skating. This coming winter I plan on getting him some proper skates and taking him out as often as he'd like, hopefully a dozen or more times.

With me and most other MN kids, we used to push around chairs on the ice when we were learning to skate. Never double blades. Eventually you learn to feel comfortable on the ice and in the skates and get your balance and can start on your own.

From there, skating classes or if you are a good player, teach them their edges, balance, drills, etc.
