All these guys reportedly "work hard" or are "smart." It's said about all prospects like this that aren't viewed as a project. You never know how a player's game is going to translate to the NHL until they play against pros, and even then you have yet to see how well they will be able to maintain the style of play needed on a consistent basis.

Everyone thinks their favorite undersized forward is going to overcome their stature, or the smaller or lanky and less aggressive defenseman is going overcome everything because they're a hard worker, or their "smart."

In the end, it's a very very small percentage that become top line scorers, or top pairing defenseman. They're usually lucky to end up as 2nd line complimentary players, or 2nd pairing defenseman or PP specialists.

We'll have to see how the Avs prospects work themselves out in the next few years. They look promising, but working hard, or being gritty, or smart alone will not cut it. There's something that just doesn't come out in these guys until they're thrown into the fire and tested against NHL players.
