I think advanced statistics could be quite useful when it comes to analyzing hockey, but the problem is that the data we have isn't good enough. Right now we have not very useful data being farmed for correlation and people shouting eureka when they stumble upon something with slightly higher correlation than pure chance.
I don't think we will have access to good enough data for it to be truly meaningful at the moment. There is enjoyment to be had from people into advanced stats speaking in definitive terms about the ability of hockey players purely from what they read into the numbers on behindthenet. I guess there is value to that.
