The name comes from an old fan club called "Grizzly Adams". When the previous Wolfsburg team went bankrupt in the early 90s, these supporters kept operating the youth teams along with their own amateur team, and eventually the current club (EHC Wolfsburg) grew out of this and they kept the old nickname. For a club often derided for having no fans and tradition, it's a pretty cool story actually.
I know that I say this a lot, but some of the people who post on bombulie's blog felt that Dimitrakos should have been kept. Interesting how some people see things differently.
