The owners came out with an agressive offer right away, so I imagine the players will likely to do the same, and it's justified really. the players will want to make it public as to how far apart the owners and players are. Plus the players already feel like they gave up a lot during the last CBA, and they'll likely try to buy time so they can go over the audit docs.

Bettman is saying that they're not going to extend the current CBA because they want a new contract before the players go over the documents with a microscope. I think it's a bluff that the NHLPA will call them on. With billions of dollars in extra revenue and a record setting playoff audience, the owners have nothing to complain about.
