It's quite amazing how fast the games have come and gone. Despite all the controversies, I've quite enjoyed the Olympics over the past two weeks. Most of these sports I'll never watch again for another 4 years, but for the time they are on during these two weeks I feel emotionally invested in them (particularly the ones that Canada is involved in). Since these are only played every 4 years, there is definitely a sense of history being made. At the time in 1936 when Jesse Owens won gold, everyone knew it was a big moment, but I'm not sure everyone knew that almost 80 years later people would still be talking about it as a defining moment. Even something more recent, 1996 Donovan Bailey's gold medal and world record: I remember watching this live, but had no idea how magical/historical that moment would be for Canadian track. We have witnessed history with Michael Phelps, and Usain Bolt. I think the moments we have witnessed the past two weeks will be looked back on for decades ahead.
I look forward to 2014 in Sochi, and 2014 in Rio.
Very true, I feel like I don't appreciate just how big a deal what those two did is.
Glad I got to watch some of the races, so I can bore grandkids with how great "that Usain Bolt was"
