McClement fit into this, although from the sounds of it the Avs offered more than enough money for him. Lappy fit into this. He didn't want to take another paycut after being asked to do so, and he was deemed replaceable, even though the leadership and energy he provided was sorely missed. Hendricks the same thing. Excelled at is role, and brought offense, size, leadership, and scrapping to go with his 4th line role, but he was viewed as replaceable, and the Avs missed his leadership and presence a lot IMO.

O'Byrne could be another causality of this, because the numbers game may force him out, and he may be viewed as replaceable.
If they were willing to give Hunwick a new contract without him even having a roster spot for sure, they better be willing to give O'Byrne at least as much as they gave Shane O'Brien.
