Despite what his defenders say, Ribeiro played badly. The sight of him flopping on the ice like a flounder on the Brind'Amour goal is an indelible one. He also botched his offensive opportunities and loused up the 5-on-3 and the 4-minute PP.

HOWEVER, he wasn't the only one I would chastise if I were Gainey. Kovalev was a screw-up. I can't recall a single noteworthy thing he did in the game. Playing with Bonk as their center, Ryder and Higgins were pathetic. They generated nothing offensively and were on ice for the first two Carolina goals. Without Koivu to face him, Brind'Amour was a one-man wrecking crew. What little good there was seemed to come from the third line.

Oh yes, the disputed Canes goal should have been allowed.
