Week of August 20th-27th - Sunday Papers

Sunday, August 26th Jets, CBA and General NHL news

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Anybody’s guess what it’ll cost Jets to keep Evander Kane. Ken is very right in pointing out that contract negotiations can take a long time and similar to Bogosian not signing until a few days before camp last season, hardly indicate a player wants out. As to term, we’ve removed the guesswork as our own Richard Pollock broke down the numbers and attempted to establish Kane’s market value back in January.

CBA news:

New York Post: Betting on a deal. Thank you Henrik Lundqvist for telling us that “it’s going to be good to go when it’s time to go”. Consider my mind blown.

Toronto Sun: A hockey fan’s guide to the NHL lockout. A must read guide to the lockout. Often times terms and people are thrown around and it is assumed that fans know exactly what is going on. This will help you get through the process.

Montreal Gazette: The fans, the players, and the disparity in NHL contract talks. While a letter to the editor isn’t usually put in the same spot as articles, Mr. Bender eloquently writes what many hockey fans from across North America are thinking/feeling.

Washington Post: KHL’s Dynamo would try to sign Alex Ovechkin in event of lockout. Not a surprise that the KHL will see this as an opportunity to gain some star power for their league.

NHL news:

Boston Globe: Tyler Seguin expected to get extension from Bruins. Hopefully with all that new cash he can afford a clock that will wake him up in the central time zone.

Buffalo News: Uncertainty disrupts Regier’s business plan. Like many teams, the Sabres are having to treat water while they wait to see what will happen in September. After last season began with so much promise, you can bet that the brass in Western New York State are hoping to have a much different 2012-13.
