I don't think it was just Montreal - it was league-wide. It was a sign of the times, really.

Also notice that Montreal drafted out of Seattle 3 straight years in the 1st round. Lindsay Vallis (another top WHL rookie prospect at one time, before regressing), Turner Stevenson and Brent Bilodeau. They also made it 4 WHL 1st rounders in a row with the David Wilkie pick in '92.
