In the last CBA negotiations, the NHLPA proposed a one-time rollback of 24% of existing salaries across the board, and the owners insisted that this remain as part of the new deal.

Essentially, a rollback is taking an existing contract and reducing it as per a collectively-bargained agreement to do so. In real terms, a player with an SPC of $1,000,000 p.a. saw his contract reduced to $760,000 p.a.
