But we'll never know for sure, if he would of flourished in the Q as well. Although the Q "should" of been his priority.

The reason I say this, it's because Matheson is also a true offensive-D. He had problems adjusting at first in the USHL, then, found his guear and still showed good enough skill sets to be picked in the 1st round.
The USHL is improving very fast. It wasn't the same in 2008-09 than it was in 2011-12.

When he was 16-17, his advisor was Enrico Ciccone. Now I don't know.
