Anyhow, to answer the question: I'll take the guy who puts up points, to the exclusion of being a guy who gets pimped as a 'heart and soul' player. Guys who impact the game with physical play and leading by example are relatively easy to find.

In all honesty, I stole this thread idea from the leafs forum. I only substituted "Shane Doan" for "Wendell Clark". Which thought was a fairly accurate substitution.
I liked the thread idea and duplicated it here. I'd have to disagree with your Ladd vs Doan comparison. Doan is/was twice the character guy than Ladd is IMHO.
My ideal next franchise guy would be Joe Sakic 2.0 .
