I've never been entirely convinced in Smith. As well, his play after he got dropped in San Jose near the All-Star break took a definite dip. He also takes too many dumb penalties for my liking.
That being said, I'm willing to wait and see if he can convince me, as this contract really isn't terrible or anything.
