That way the stupid owners who paid too much still get dinged and the players still get their money. Going forwards the league would be "stable" with all the rest of the HRR hoopla.

This, but also because the small market teams care more about player salaries than cap hits. They want a rollback because it decreases their expenditures and could push them closer to profitability.
