That's a very fair point and, from afar, I would think that the Leafs would be prioritizing as you suggest, with an emphasis on upgrading the D corp.

It is weird, however, the strict ideology that exists among a few Leaf fans here that it be forbidden for the team to move youth for a vet who may be a "missing piece" to get them over the hump and out of the Conference this playoff year.

Whether one agrees with the older makeup of the team or not, the point is, when you have had a good team for several straight seasons AND you have guys like Sundin, Roberts, Joe N., Mogilny, Nolan and Belfour - all over 30 and then some - comprising your core, you don't go into youth movement mode. You do what it takes to win. And if that means taking a calculated risk to exchange yet another prospect for a Stanley Cup, you do it. This is the Leafs, not the Black Hawks.

One gets the feeling that a few people would prefer keeping Colaiacovo and/or Steen over seeing Mats Sundin skating around with Lord Stanley next spring. :p
