Where we stand (kinda) now cap wise....
Using last years cap roof and us resigning MDZ for a caphit of $2,5 M - here is where we would stand today with a 20 man roster (+ 2 players on LTIR):
CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
Rick Nash ($7.800m) / Brad Richards ($6.667m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)
Chris Kreider ($1.325m) / Derek Stepan ($0.875m) / Carl Hagelin ($0.875m)
Mike Rupp ($1.500m) / Brian Boyle ($1.700m) / Taylor Pyatt ($1.550m)
Micheal Haley ($0.600m) / Jeff Halpern ($0.700m) / Arron Asham ($1.000m)
Ryan McDonagh ($1.300m) / Dan Girardi ($3.325m)
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Anton Stralman ($1.700m)
Michael Del Zotto ($2.500m)
/ Stu Bickel ($0.750m)
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m)
Martin Biron ($1.300m)
Michael Sauer ($1.250m)
Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)
Chris Drury ($1.667m)
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000
CAP PAYROLL: $61,008,334
DEFERRABLE (?) BONUSES: $1,250,000
CAP SPACE (
LTIR (2 players): $8,750,000
A couple of vital points:
Will there be a salary rollback (of sorts) or rollback of escrow money lowering players caphits?
Will there be a new rule forbidding burying of contracts in the minors (add Redden then... oh boy)?
Will there be a new rule regarding RFA status (might make a difference for MDZ:s contract this year and our 4 key homegrown players next year...)?
Will bonuses still be deferable?
Will there be amnesty buyouts?
Will there be a new system of buying extra cap space (not likely)?
Will the cap actually go down from last years level of $64,3 M (IN ABSOLUTE TERMS after rollbacks aso...)?
I still think we are in very good shape compared to about 2/3 of the league capwise. And our roster looks very good as is to be honest, albeit a bit thin when Gabby and Sauer are out...
