Friday, September 7th Jets, CBA and General NHL news
: Tune into the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN Radio 1290 tomorrow as we return to our Fall/Winter noon to 3 pm schedule. We have an action packed 3 hour show with a 4-man booth, which will include @ICdrew, @ICezzyg, @mremis and yours truly @ICdave. Guests include: Bill Lindsay (Florida Panthers Radio Analyst), Kalen Qually (Pass it Forward).
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets come up with ‘contingency’ plan. Not much news on the ticket front. The Jets were just alerting their season ticket holders and those on the Waiting List that they likely won’t be receiving anything until after the 15th. Let’s hope the only calls going out on the 15th are Happy Birthday wishes to me and not plans on what to do if the league locks out the players.
Toronto Star: Gary Bettman, Donald Fehr to forfeit pay during lockout. The assertion being made by the players was that Commissioner Bettman would still be paid even if there was a lockout, but it appears that is no longer the case. So perhaps the NHLPA can focus on the issues and ignore the inflammatory statements.
TSN: Common ground needed to advance CBA negotiations. As antithetical as this suggestion is gonna sound, perhaps it is time the two sides spent time negotiating with each other instead of worrying about controlling the message via the media.
ESPN: The state of CBA negotiations. I don’t think anyone is surprised about the current status of the negotiations although I did expect to see more of a pretense of urgency.
TSN: CHL, AHL prepared for locked out and post-lockout NHL. The lockout won’t just impact the NHL as the ripple effect will be felt in other leagues.
Arizona Republic: Phoenix Coyotes’ Shane Doan breaks his silence. There still appears to be some uncertainty with the Coyotes situation but Doan is not saying what we long suspected would be the case, that he will remain with the Coyotes organization.
OC Register: Ryan drama is all NHL has right now. Ryan attempts to back tracking from his earlier comments.
National Post: Roberto Luongo still participating as member of Canucks … for now. Can this situation be any more awkward?
USA Today: Sabres owner Terry Pegula has Buffalo buzzing. Love reading about the type of positive impact an owner can have on the community.
ESPN: One year later, loss still painful. It seems unbelievable that a year has already passed since this horrible tragedy.
Globe and Mail: Ice Edge back in the mix to purchase Phoenix Coyotes. Will this finally be the time they get the deal done?
Globe and Mail: Canadian NHL clubs sacrificing revenue. Last week’s guest on the IC Hockey Show Bruce Dowbiggin with another informative piece.
