I think exactly that, all the details are on the Flyers side of things.

This is only news because its the Habs and no hockey is playing, other than as a window into business as usual in NHL front offices.

This is the story as I see it:

Flyers desperately want a start defensman.
Habs have one that they are trying to get under contract but not in a rush.
Flyers ask about said defenseman.
Habs aren't interested in trade but are curious about market value so asks if the Flyers second best asset is available.
Flyers consult internally and say they can't part with that.
Habs say "then you can't make a deal here."


I imagine stuff like this is going on all the time. A lot of consultations and manuvering but not that many major trades come out of it.
