I don't think the owners are really trying. They started off with a horrible proposal and are just offering things that are slightly less bad.
I don't think either side is really all that interested in negotiating. They've both decided they're fine with a lockout for the next little while and are posturing to make it appear that they're trying just to avoid getting slammed in the media.
No real progress has been made at all and I expect it to remain that way for a while.
I don't think the entire season will be lost...but it's obvious that neither side feels any real urgency at this point.
