It's difficult to side with anyone in this debacle. It was a lot easier to side with the players in the NFL because they don't have guaranteed contracts (and didn't ask to get them) and wanted more done for player safety and post retirement benefits. Obviously money was still the biggest issue but at least they gave an appearance of caring about something else.

The NHL squabble is about money, a lot of it, but still just money. The gap is about 200 million. If they meet in the middle it's 3.3 million per owner less than they want, and 133,333 per player less than they want. Obviously those are just averages, but in the grand scheme of things it sure doesn't seem like that big of a gap, given how much money the people involved have.
