My proposal.

Players revenue will be fixed at $1.716 billion but if revenue are over 3.3M, owners get 70% and players 30%. NHL revenue last year was $3.3 billion (52%)

Flat cap with inflation (indexation)

No salary rollback.

Owners revenue needs be at least 1.584 billion. If not, part of the players revenue would go the owners to equal 1.584 billion.

Example: Revenue are down in 2012-2013

Let say in 2012-2013, revenue goes down to 3.2 billion.(3% decrease)
Owners 1.584 billion. (49.5%)
Players get 1.716 billion but give 100 millions to the owners. (% of the players salary held in reserve) (50.5%)

Example: Revenue are up in 2012-2013.

Let say in 2012-2013, revenue goes down to 3.4 billion.(3% increase)
Owners 1.584 billion
Players 1.716 billion

100 million would be separated like this:
60 million to the owners.
40 millions to the players.

Owners 1.584 + 0.06 = 1.644 billion (48.7%)
Players 1.716 + 0.04= 1.756 billion (51.3%)

Thoughts?
