Hjarlmasson is a non-physical stay at home D, that gives out about 45 hits per season. He is an above average shot blocker with limited offensive skills. Plays a good ES positional defense, but his PK sucks. Chicago’s PK was 27th last season.
If he was a solid 2nd pairing D, why did Oduya bump him down to the 3rd pairing and the Hawks resigned Oduya for 3yrs. It’s debatable if he would be the 7th D behind Leddy, who is younger and a lot cheaper than the 3.5M cap hit of Hammer’s.
If the Hawks traded a 2013 2nd+3rd for Oduya, at best Hjarlmasson would get you is a mid 2nd.
Oilers don’t need a non-physical D like Hjarlmasson and would pass.
