The logic is a bit off. We're not going to see a goaltender change in this series like we saw in the Montreal vs. Carolina series. Martin Gerber had an excuse for giving up so many weak goals, and it was the fact that he was probably sick enough to be hospitalized. Speaking of weak goals, only the first two against Brodeur could be classified as "weak" goals. Carolina did everything right today. They outworked the Devils.

I'm not saying the Devils can't come back, because that's stupid. But to say that Carolina playing Gerber when he was too sick to play is the same as playing Broduer coming off one of his best playoff series of his career is a bit of a leap.

In essence, there is no Cam Ward for New Jersey. They will win by Broduer, and they will die by Brodeur. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but there is no quick fix in this scenario for New Jersey. The drop off from one goaltender to another is far more significant to the implied drop off between Martin Gerber and Cam Ward.
