I mean their powerplay is terrible as it is, nevermind compounding it with his extra 2 penalties per game.

He is a terrible defenseman who will play rough and stick up for his teammates. Now 3 years ago, that might have been helpful to this team when we had guys like Niinimaa and Hamrlik on the back end, as well as Smith at the top of his game. He handles the puck like its a hand grenade, and he takes a lot of chances going for a big hit.

Plus I actually think he is the one player in the league who may be slower than Ferguson.
If you're stuck in the "penalties are always bad" mode then fine, load up your team with a bunch of lady Byng candidates and watch them get punked for 82 games. Goalies always play better when they get the occasional tap on their glove to wake them up anyways.

Noone doubts the fact that Brown wasn't a #1 d-man, he was just a positive addition to the lineup because he is one of the very best players in the league at the things he does do well. Having a bunch of guys who are mediocre in every category just doesn't cut it all the time.

Will Allen ever play as a regular in the nhl? Maybe, but we have better prospects ahead of him on the depth chart and some more that are soon to pass him. Brown will play more games from here on out than Allen does, and he will be a bigger contributor as well.
