Considering what some other offense d-men are making, I think the only reason it looks like a lot of money is that we're not used to giving out that much and it's a BIG raise. But it goes to show that if we didn't pay it, someone was going to...easily. As mentioned above, he's at least a top 10 offensive d-man in the league(I personally think closer to top five) so I have no problem with the money.

I don't think it means "good bye Timonen," at least not until his contract is up...but...and this may be controversial...but I think at this point, Zidlicky is more valuable to us than Timonen. Timonen's edge over Zids was always his defensive game, but it seems like a lot of that was phased out in the "new NHL," and Timonen's game was always holding\pinning to make up for his size, and it saw him sent to the box quite a bit, when caught in our end. Suter has the tools and the absolute potential to be an upgrade over Timonen in the near future, and he's bigger.
