Who knows, maybe it'd be different next season, but you can't just hand Plekanec the #2 centre job and assume he'll be wildly successful without a backup plan. I'm all for getting rid of Ribeiro if we can somehow replace him with a better centre that doesn't cost much more. But to ditch Ribeiro for nothing and promote Plekanec to #2 is an absolutely ridiculously stupid idea. If we're not getting a UFA centre, then let Ribs and Pleks fight it out, use them both.
I totally agree with you. Plekanec is not the #2 centre we need and neither is Arnott. Sure Arnott MIGHT be ok but you don't "try" something for 4M+ a year.
When you sign a UFA you go for someone who fills your needs perfectly because you usually have to overpay for them. We need a #1 winger more than a #2 centre.
