Now, I don't disagree with your general point here, but you're not presenting it terribly well so I'm playing devil's advocate.

The bottom-line is that: yes, Lang would be a band-aid. He would be a last resort if Gainey does not find a better player for the club and doesn't see sufficient opportunities to add one in the near future.

I would be for a move for Lang because, as much as I hope for Ribeiro to improve, Lang is a distinctly better player than Ribeiro and does use his body down low, as well as his reach, to shield off his opponents. For you to disqualify this as a fundamental part of his offensive game is a clear misunderstanding of Lang's play. He's not fast. He's big. He uses his size; not as a bruiser, but to protect the puck and move into scoring position.
