It also depends on how good the teacher is with little kids. Just because you know how to skate doesn't mean you know how to handle little kids. Throw a high school english teacher into kindergarten and see how they do.

My son started taking lessons when he was just turning 5. It went so-so. Then he got a new teacher, who not only taught him very well, but made him LOVE coming to learn to skate. fast forward two years, and even though my son is easily the biggest kid on his team, he's also the best skater. Largely thanks to a very good learn to skate teacher
