As much as I would absolutely love us signing Selanne, he is not gonna leave Anaheim.
There is no point not qualifying Ribeiro. Qualify and/or sign him then trade him if you don't want him back, but letting him walk is senseless.
I don't think anyone has really been in favour of separating Higgins and Koivu. Maybe some people's line-ups split them up, but I don't think anyone consciously wants to take them away from each other.
Like it or not, Bonk will be back. He's a fine hockey player. The only thing to really dislike about him is his salary, but tough luck. We'll have to suck it up for one last year.
Zednik has stated, "I see no reason to stick around if it's to play on the third line." While I think it's a stupid thing to say, since the third line will still get decent ice time and Zeds may get PP time, this is a pretty good sign he will be dealt. And if he isn't dealt, he will be put - to start - on a line with Koivu or Kovalev.
No Kostitsyn in the line-up? It's possible he starts the year in Hamilton, especially if Grabovsky is indeed brought over to play there. But I think, as of now, odds are in his favour to start the season in Montreal.
If Latendresse is going to be on the fourth line, Montreal will send him back to the Q. He may get a 10-game tryout, and/or may be with the team when Drumondville's season is over, but aside from that, I don't see him sticking next year.
Steve Begin is a 4th line player. Yes, we all love him. Yes, he's an amazing 4th liner. But don't try to promote him because of it. When he is moved, he starts thinking like an offensive player, and maybe I'm the only one who has noticed it, but this leads to him taking chances and making sometimes dumb plays, even causing turnovers.
For fun, even though there are about 20 threads like this one already active, here's one dream possibility I have in mind to start the year:
Chris Higgins - Saku Koivu - Mark Bell
Andrei Kostitsyn - Jason Arnott - Alex Kovalev
Guillaume Latendresse - Tomas Plekanec - Alexander Perezhogin
Garth Murray - Radek Bonk - Steve Begin
Andrei Markov - Mike Komisarek
Sheldon Souray - Kim Johnsson
Mathieu Dandenault - Craig Rivet
Press Box: Jonathan Ferland, Aaron Downey, Mark Streit
Cristobal Huet and David Aebischer will platoon / ride the hot hand
