Yeah, there is a part of what people assume is the Bronx that is actually part of Manhattan. The reason is that the harlem river at the top of Manhattan was too narrow to allow for ship traffic. So they excavated a straight line across to the south and filled in the old harlem river. The land below the old harlem river is still part of manhattan even though it's now physically surrounded by the bronx
