Bird of a different feather: Perry traded to Pens

The Anaheim Ducks have announced that they have traded former Hart trophy winner Corey Perry to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In exchange for the former 50 goal scorer, the Ducks receive C Brandon Sutter, LW Tyler Kennedy, D Simon Despres, D Joe Morrow, 2012 1st round pick D Olli Maataa, LW Beau Bennett, RW Tom Kuehnackel, and C Matt Murray. Anaheim will also receive Pittsburgh's 1st and 3rd round choices in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

"This was a trade that when it was presented to us, was very hard to turn down or look at other offers, GM Chris Regier said in a statement. While its always tough to lose a player like Corey, with his stats and his general play, we feel we have set ourselves up quite nicely for the future."

Regier was also equally happy to add to his young core, particularly on the blueline.

"If you look at the current core of our blueline, with guys like Cam (Fowler), Luca (Sbisa), and the vets like Allen, Souray, Beauch and Lyds, we feel weve have added some needed youth and flexibility. To add 3 guys the caliber of Maata, Despres and Morrow to that core, with Hamptus Lindholm on the way next season, were very happy with the future of our blueline.

Regier also likes what the move does to the current crop of forwards, particularly the skill set of C Brandon Sutter.

"We eyed Brandon from the start. Hes a hard-working, skilled player that we really feel can be a top 6 forward in this league."

Regier said that Sutter, Kennedy, Despres and possibly Maata could all be headed to the Ducks as soon as tonight. While Morrow, Murray, Kuehnackel and California native Beau Bennett will report to AHL Norfolk
